After living in the charming community of Forney, located just east of Dallas, for 11 years and selling countless new homes in the master-planned community of Devonshire to ecstatic clients, realtors Ember and Steven Thompson were what you would call “informed consumers.” So, about a year and a half ago, they decided to buy a beautiful lot and build their “forever home” in this community that they had watched blossom.
“We loved the neighborhood in Devonshire,” Ember said. “We watched the community being built from its infancy and we knew it was the nicest community in Forney."
“Plus, from an investment standpoint, we knew this was a solid move for our family. Steven and I make our living advising clients on residential real estate investments and all the factors - the community’s location, its amazing amenities, the highly-rated schools for our kids, the HOA, and the well-planned infrastructure of the community - made this an easy decision for us.”
With six children, five young ones still at home and an older (23-year old) son on active duty in the Air Force, the Thompson family needed some serious space. They found it on an estate lot on Devonshire Drive and a spacious home built by Bloomfield Homes.
“Except for our older son, all of our kids are still in elementary school,” Ember said. “Forney ISD is an award-winning system with a phenomenal, visionary superintendent. It has magnet programs for everything from agriculture to fine arts. Our school children can earn an Associate’s degree for no charge. We also have a partnership with Texas Tech for adult learning. Finally, the school district is building a new Aquatic Center, because our student-athletes are regionally and state-ranked in swimming!”
When asked about her favorite thing about Devonshire, Ember did not hesitate.
“It might sound a little corny, but my favorite thing about living here is the people,” she said. “Our neighbors are incredible people. There are entrepreneurs and business owners, military veterans, just extraordinarily generous good people, and they know how to “show up” for each other as neighbors. The developer could not have known that this would happen, but it has, and we are so blessed to be a part of this community."
“We just had our annual July 4th celebration in the community and more than 2,000 people came to the party! Steven and I put up more than 3,000 American flags - in front of every single home in Devonshire and throughout the common areas- every year in honor of our active-duty son and our great country. This type of community celebration does not typically happen in big-city neighborhoods, but it DOES here, and we love it!”
